TLU Performance Skills Workshop

Dan Ambrose

CONNECTION is the not-so-secret sauce of every big verdict/great trial lawyer. It is not an art, it is not something some people are born with and others are not. Connecting is a skill that can be learned and mastered. Like all complex skills that one is seeking to learn and master, it has to be broken down into its component parts, its micro-skills, which have to be identified, isolated, and practiced. The micro-skills of connection are; eye contact, emotional state control(facial expressions) voice control, hand movement/gestures, body movement, glance control, word choice, creating space, and being KIND.

We will be learning, practicing, and mastering these skills in the context of opening statement which will also include mastering the use of visuals.

Classes are limited to five participants. There will be three Zoom prep sessions to practice.

“Before I came to this bootcamp, I would use my hands while presenting but without much of a purpose and irregularly. Now I have much better command of my hand gesticulation and when to use it to help amplify the effectiveness of my presentation.”

Using your AI Toolbox to Level the Playing Field in Plaintiff's PI Cases

Deena Buchanan

Too often, insurance defense firms have the luxury of having a staff of legal assistants, associates, paralegals, and even sometimes multiple partners billing away with the goal of chipping away at your case and overwhelming you with paper. Even the most righteous of PI cases can become overwhelming when smaller PI practitioners have to balance a heavy caseload in these David vs. Goliath situations. Your AI toolbox can help level the playing field. We are not talking about hallucinated briefs.

We are talking about ways to use AI to improve your quality of life and create processes within your practice that help you move your case and turn that momentum back in your favor. Join us as we walk through some basic discussion of the various options available to us, followed by some real case examples of a few ways to use AI ethically and safely to help you work cases more efficiently, help you push your cases and even create damages models. A good offense always helps maximize case value.

“TLU bootcamps show you how to embrace structure first, and in doing so, you will find your own style. The transformation in how I connect with jurors, understand my own habits, and improve the way I present now is unmatched.”

TLU Cross Examination Workshop

Dan Ambrose

The critical skills to most effectively deliver cross-examination are: leading questions only, one new fact per question, using only present tense, using your hand to control the witness, creating space, effectively using a flip chart to anchor points, bringing the jury in, and closing through cross-examination.

Classes are limited to six participants.

We will be learning and practicing these skills through the use of three chapters of cross-examination.

There will be three Zoom prep sessions to practice the scripts.

“Dan's coaching is unparalleled when it comes to trial preparation. His dedication ensures that you work hard, practice diligently, and prepare your case thoroughly for the best possible outcome. With Dan's guidance, you can confidently approach your trial with a solid and well-prepared strategy.”

Truck Crash Cases are Not Car Crashes - Know the Difference so you can get Justice for your Clients

Deena Buchanan

Many of us start off by handling semi-truck crash cases the same way that we handle car crash cases, but if we do that, we can completely miss the boat on justice for our clients. These cases are more complex than they appear on the surface. They have additional and different liability theories, duties, defendants, evidence, and damages models. Talk a walk down the semi-truck highway with a board-certified truck crash lawyer (who trained driving trucks at the Alaska Driving Academy!) and let's explore these differences so you can get real justice for your clients.

“I left the program more comfortable making eye contact with people as a presenter as well as a listener. While sitting as a member of our practice jury, I had a tendency of looking away, looking down, and closing my eyes when the presenter would attempt to make a connection with me. This will help me not only as a trial lawyer but also in my everyday interactions with the people around me.”

Witness preparation & Direct examination

Dan Ambrose

The goal of witness prep is to teach your witness how to be the best witness they can be. To do this they must learn how to access the images/pictures in their mind so that they can transport themselves and the jury back in time to relive the events. We MUST get the STORY before we can effectively tell it, otherwise, we are just guessing.

Dan will demonstrate how to transport your client so you can get the story. And then how to help your client tell his/her story so the jury can experience it. Every participant will take a turn being the witness and the questioning lawyer.

“Dan consulted on a recent case we tried that resulted in a $9 million jury verdict. He brought his experience to bear in helping us craft our trial story, overcome defense arguments, and his helping us prepare our examinations of critical witnesses. His input helped us immeasurably. I look forward to working on many more cases with Dan”

The AI Toolbox Applied

Deena Buchanan

Dive deeper into how you can use AI to help save hours of time and elevate your practice when preparing for depositions, preparing discovery requests, analyzing voluminous data, preparing for corporate representative depositions, handling dispositive motions (we are not talking about case hallucinations!), developing trial themes and damages models, anticipating and responding to motions for directed verdict, scouring the web for information on your defendant and more.

Voir Dire

The goal of voir dire is to seat a jury who likes you and likes or is at least open to your case. Likeability is a result of connection. To become a voir dire master, you must train yourself to consciously control your; eye contact, voice, breathing, emotional state, and hand/body movements. You must also ask the right questions. The right questions are scripted so that they can be practiced and delivered authentically. The first five minutes of voir dire can make or break your case. This demonstration will show you how you can get that connection every time when you master just three scripts.

“Before I came to this bootcamp, I would use my hands while presenting but without much of a purpose and irregularly. Now I have much better command of my hand gesticulation and when to use it to help amplify the effectiveness of my presentation.”
